Wilmington, Delaware -- Today the LCV Victory Fund, NRDC Action Votes, EDF Action Votes, and other groups announced a new independent expenditure effort to elect Collin O’Mara in the Democratic primary for Governor of Delaware. The groups plan to spend more than $500,000 on this effort. NRDC Action Votes plans to run “Real Deal” on statewide television with a cable buy and LCV Victory Fund and EDF Action Votes will run “Champion” on digital. The effort comes early in the race to boost O’Mara’s candidacy against two establishment career politicians.
O’Mara served as the Secretary of Natural Resources and Environmental Control in Delaware from 2009-2014, when he led the nation in reducing air pollution, bolstered climate resilience, and expanded public trails, parks, and wildlife refugees. He is currently the CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, America’s largest grassroots conservation organization, where he leads their 7 million members. Under his leadership, NWF played a critical role in helping pass the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Great American Outdoors Act, and the Delaware River Basin Conservation Act.
“Collin O’Mara is a proven environmental champion who’s stood up for the people and places Delawareans care about most,” said Eva Estrada, Campaigns Director for LCV Victory Fund. “O’Mara has the experience and commitment to take on the big polluters who’ve held Delaware back and continue to build more good paying clean energy jobs right here at home.”
“Since serving as Governor Markell’s Secretary of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Collin O’Mara has proven he’s a leader that gets results for Delaware,” said Jocelyn Steinberg, Director of NRDC Action Votes. “By leading the The Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub, he helped secure over $250 million dollars for Delaware to be the leader in clean energy. O’Mara, as Governor, will make sure Delaware always has a brighter and cleaner future for families.”
“Delaware deserves a governor who has the executive experience and values to fight for everyone’s health and prosperity. That’s Collin O’Mara,” said Dustin Ingalls, East Coast Director of Political Programs for EDF Action Votes.
About the race: Democratic voters in Delaware are still learning about the candidates. The Democratic primary is a race between Collin O’Mara, Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long and New Castle County Executive Matt Meyers. While public polling has been scarce, a recent poll released by Citizens for a New Delaware Way shows the two established politicians with higher name recognition but a third of voters still undecided on the question of who they will support.
