New $2M Campaign Focuses on Orange County Asian American and Latino Voters Who Could Decide Control of Congress

Labor/Enviro Independent Expenditure in CD 47 Invests Heavily in Multi-Ethnic Strategy to Boost Democrat Dave Min over MAGA Republican Scott Baugh in California’s Most Competitive Congressional Race

Orange County, CA - Today, a coalition of labor and environmental organizations launched a powerful, new, nearly $2 million campaign that gives Asian American and Latino voters the attention they deserve in California’s 47th Congressional District. The significant new advertising investment aims to boost Democrat Dave Min over MAGA Republican Scott Baugh in one of the nation’s most competitive Congressional races, and could also be decisive in determining control of the House.

The investment of $1.9 million communicating with voters in the district, in a multi-language digital TV, mail, and phone campaign, marks a significant expansion of outreach to API and Latino voters in a critical swing district. The campaign is spearheaded by SEIU California, SEIU International, EDF Action Votes, LCV Victory Fund, and NRDC Action Votes.

Reaching Asian-American Voters

“One in four CD 47 voters are Asian American, and API voters are eager for information on how candidates stand on issues that matter to our community,” said Allen Chen, For Our Freedom Spokesperson. “Whether we speak Chinese, Vietnamese or English, API voters deserve to know MAGA Republican Scott Baugh’s refusal to stand up to Anti-Asian hate feeds the hateful Trump rhetoric that has devastated our community.”

In a series of ads which will begin rolling out this week, “Scared” powerfully illustrates Baugh’s role in the epidemic of Anti-Asian hate and its impact on API communities and will run in English as well as Chinese. “Same Old” and “Banquet” spotlight Baugh’s shady scandals, noting he has been charged with 22 indictments, including 4 felony counts.

With this new ad campaign, API voters will also learn that Dave Min has always looked out for working families and the issues we care about, like keeping energy costs down. “Nonsense,” contrasts Min’s new leadership with Baugh’s shady past.

Reaching Latino Voters

“Latino voters are important every election, and especially when the balance of power in Congress is at stake,” said Jon Colmenares, NRDC Action Votes Deputy Director. “Our labor/environmental coalition aims to educate the Latino community in California’s 47th congressional district on the facts - that Scott Baugh is the prime example of the politician that our parents and grandparents sacrificed to leave behind, while Dave Min is a leader who has fought for us. He’s fought for better job opportunities through apprenticeship programs, fair wages, and lower energy bills.”

Torta,” a 30-second English-language spot, and “Mentiras,” 30 seconds in Spanish, begin airing this week.
