NRDC Action Votes today congratulated John Mannion on his victory in New York’s 22nd Congressional District. Mannion’s win comes at a critical time for Syracuse as reports have shown that Syracuse drinking water is testing positive for elevated lead levels, which can cause significant health problems in infants, children, and pregnant women. There are no safe levels of lead exposure. NRDC Action Votes invested $400,000 behind an ad that highlighted the issue and showed how Mannion’s opponent blocked efforts in Washington, D.C. to replace the old pipes leaching lead.
“Safe, clean drinking water was on the ballot and Syracuse voters have spoken. They want a Congressman who will take on special interests, polluters, and fight for the health of our children That’s John Mannion,” Joceln Steinberg, NRDC Action Votes Director “Syracuse families should never have to worry if the water coming out of their taps is poisoning their children, and now they have the champion they deserve in John Mannion.”
