“Given everything Flint families and small businesses have been through, they deserve a strong voice in Washington who they can trust, and that is Congresswoman-elect Kristen McDonald Rivet,” said Jon Colmenares, Deputy Director of NRDC Action Votes. “We were honored to support her campaign and we look forward to working alongside her in Congress to fight for clean air and clean water for all.”
NRDC Action Votes invested $250,000 on ads and campaign activations as part of an initiative, Safe Water Is on the Ballot Week campaign that highlighted the issue in key battleground competitive races in New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Texas. Flint’s lead water crisis sparked a national wake-up call to the danger of outdated public infrastructure like lead pipes that contributed to the problem. Nearly 9,000 children were poisoned by Flint’s contaminated water and reported problematic lead levels, and the city infrastructure remains outdated today. NRDC Action Votes has been an outspoken champion highlighting the dangers of lead pipes to communities.
