PHILADELPHIA (Aug. 31, 2022) – Two environmental political action committees are launching a $500,000 independent expenditure campaign today in support of Josh Shapiro, the Democratic nominee for governor in Pennsylvania.
The television ads by Conservation Voters of PA Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes feature a nurse describing the harmful effects of air pollution on her patients and Republican Doug Mastriano’s opposition to action that would help curb that pollution.
“Josh Shapiro has stood up for cleaner air and a safer climate while Doug Mastriano has chosen the interests of polluters over children’s health,” said Jocelyn Steinberg, the director of NRDC Action Votes. “We want to make sure voters know where they stand on this crucial issue.”
Recent polling demonstrates that voters in the Commonwealth are strongly in favor of measures to curb sulfur dioxide, methane and carbon pollution. Support for candidates who want to cut pollution from the coal, oil and gas industries dramatically increases when voters are made aware of their positions on the environment.
“Pennsylvanians strongly support clean air and clean energy – and we must elect candidates who stand with people, not with polluters,” said Molly Parzen of Conservation Voters of PA Victory Fund. “Doug Mastriano cares more about the profits of the oil and gas industry than he does for the people of Pennsylvania. We hope to show voters that a vote for Doug Mastriano means a vote for a less healthy environment.”
